DENVER — Workers for the contract operator of the Denver-area commuter rail system have voted to organize with Teamsters Local 17, the union announced Friday.

Denver Transit Operators holds a 29-year contract to operate the Regional Transportation District’s commuter rail system, which operations from Denver Union Station and includes the A Line to Denver International Airport and the B Line to Westminster. The union will represent the 74 operators on that system.

“We are proud to welcome this group of essential workers to North America’s strongest union,” Ed Bagwell, president of Local 17, said in a press release. “These new Teamsters provide an invaluable service to millions of people that live, work, and travel throughout the City of Denver. We are grateful they entrusted us to be their sole bargaining representative, and we are looking forward to helping them secure their first Teamsters contract.”

The local represents approximately 2,600 workers in various industries in Colorado and Wyoming. More information is available at the union website.
