— The Wabash Valley Railroad Museum successfully completed the move of a 1922 New York Central boxcar from Greencastle, Ind., to the museum in Terre Haute on Tuesday. Unloading of the car will take place later this week because of the length of time needed for the actual move. Photos and video of the move are posted on the museum Facebook page. The organization is seeking donations to offset the cost of $15,000 cost of the project. Donations can be made at the museum website or by mail to the Haley Tower Historical & Technical Society, P.O. Box 10291, Terre Haute, IN 47801.
— Residents of Hinsdale and Western Springs, Ill., complained to community officials about noise after Friday night work on a project to build a new BNSF Railway bridge over Interstate 294 between those two communities, leading Illinois Tollway officials to say they will notify homeowners before any other night work on the project. The project is installing a temporary bridge for the busy triple-track main line to allow the highway to be widened; a new permanent bridge will then be constructed. The complaints followed piledriving work, the Pioneer Press reports. The night work was done, tollway officials said, to expedite the project while fewer people are commuting, allowing a lane of the highway to be closed. The tollway said it would work with contractors to minimize the need for additional night piledriving work on the project, due for completion in 2022.
— The National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association has named Nicole Womach as its director of finance and administration. She previously served as director of finance and administration for the United Motorcoach Association. “Nicole is a welcome addition to the NRC team,” NRC Chairman Jim Hansen said in a news release. “The NRC Board is enthusiastic about adding this dedicated function to the staff.”
In this case you have a lot of “shelter-in-place” nimby’s who have been marooned at home for a couple of weeks. So if it is like any other people being cooped up, they are going to be cranky. But it was good thinking for ISTHA to tell the contractor to speed things up during the reduction in Metra and tollway traffic.
Well guys, it’s nice to hear the piledrivers they’re running next door to your houses in the middle of the night isn’t disturbing your beauty sleep.
The people in those two towns are classic nimbys. Always have been.
Why build at night? Of course people are gonna complain.
