ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The New Mexico Steam Locomotive & Railroad Historical Society his having a 75th birthday party for Santa Fe 4-8-4 No. 2926 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 18 at 1833 8th St N.W., Albuquerque, N.M.

The society will provide birthday cake, ice cream, soft drinks, and music. Participants are encouraged to bring a homemade card or create on site.

Organizers say contributions to the restoration are always appreciated.

The locomotive was built in 1944, retired in 1953, and displayed in a city park from 1956 to 2000 when it was withdrawn for a restoration that is nearing completion.

  1. Having been involved in an unsuccessful 1990s attempt to restore sister Santa Fe 4-8-4 2912 in Pueblo, Colorado, I’m delighted to see the progress on 2926.
