PITTSBURGH — As of Tuesday, Oct. 1, Amtrak’s Pennsylvanian offers checked baggage service, having added a baggage car to its consist. In addition, space to transport up to six bicycles will be available.
The Pennsylvanian operates daily, leaving New York Penn Station westbound at 10:52 a.m. and arriving at Pittsburgh at 7:59 p.m. The eastbound counterpart leaves Pittsburgh at 7:30 a.m. and arrives at Penn Station, New York, at 4:56 p.m. According to Amtrak, checked baggage service will be available at Pittsburgh, Johnstown, Altoona, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Philadelphia, Newark, N.J., and New York.
About time! Next up—checked baggage to more and more stops, ultimately to serve all stations. It will reduce on board luggage crowding…

This is certainly a welcome service addition! On frequent trips from Tampa to Pgh. we usually change trains in Was. But this last trip we changed in Phila. so relatives could pick up at the Pgh. station at 8:00 PM instead of 11:30 PM. BUTTTT we had to claim our luggage in Phila. and carry it to the “Pennsylvanian”.
