BARRINGTON, Ill. — More than two-thirds of the spaces in a new premium parking lot for the Barrington Metra station have been sold in advance of the lot’s opening on Oct. 1.
Barrington announced earlier this year that it would sell 90 spaces closest to the station for $1,200 annually. [See “Chicago suburb to offer premium commuter parking for $1,200,” Trains News Wire] The Barrington Courier-Review reports that 65 of those spaces have been sold. Those spaces are reserved for premium pass holders until 9:30 a.m.; after that, they are open to anyone at regular daily rates.
The premium spaces are being introduced at the same time the city is expanding its north parking lot by 67 spaces, thanks to a recent purchase of a lot from a neighboring church.
Why would anyone want to park near the tracks in Barrington? According to the town’s own government and citizens, it is menaced by “monster trains”.
Obvious that $1200.00 was too cheap. Better to have tried yield/demand pricing or an auction.
