The southbound Adirondack, Train 68, sustained an air leak and damage to an electrical box after hitting a tree about six miles south of Rhinecliff, according to an Amtrak representative. The train was stuck for about 75 minutes, and then was able to proceed to New York Penn Station on its own.
The northbound Lake Shore Limited, Train 49, was delayed after hitting a tree a few miles north of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., the representative said. After a 90-minute delay, the train continued. The engine suffered cosmetic damage.
Long time ago I was listening to the radio near the horseshoe curve and apparently an Amtrak train got a tree in the windshield of the locomotive. No one was hurt, but everyone kept on trying to fix it with duct-tape it seemed.
