More Friday rail news:
— The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority will resume regular service on most bus and trolley and some rail lines in the Philadelphia area as of Sunday, May 17, the agency has announced, with fare collection resuming Monday, May 18. Some stations will reopen; COVID-19 measures will remain in effect. Trolley route 101 will be covered by buses until May 30; Trolley route 102 will remain suspended through May 30. Regional rail commuter lines will remain on a Lifeline schedule through the end of May, according to KYW-TV.
— The Surface Transportation Board has moved up the effective date for Canadian Pacific’s purchase of the Central Maine & Quebec from June 18 to June 3. The change is in response to a request from CP’s U.S. subsidiary Soo Line Corp., the official purchaser of the U.S. portion of the CM&Q. The company indicated it had planned for integration of the CM&Q as of June 3 based on an initial schedule set out by the STB on Jan. 16, and that the earlier date would be in the public intereset as it would allow the CM&Q to come out of its current voting trust sooner.
— Kansas City Southern has named Manny Loureiro as vice president and chief engineer, overing seeing engineering departments in the U.S. and Mexico. He will replace Vernon “Buck” Jones, who will retire this summer after 42 years with KCS. Louriero joins KCS after 37 years with Canadian National, including a period as chief engineer of track from 2009 to 2017, when he retired and started a consulting business, LC Rail.
