The RCMP for Saskatchewan’s Twitter account began posting shortly after 7 a.m. on the derailment and fire. A Canadian Pacific representative tells Trains the derailment happened west of Guernsey, Sask., and that there were no injuries have been no evacuations.
“CP emergency response and HazMat crews have been deployed to the scene and will work closely with local first responders to assess and minimize impact to the surrounding area,” CP representative Andy Cummings says. “Crews will work diligently and will ensure the area is cleaned up and restored after we safely recover from this incident.”
Cummings tells Trains that initial reports from the scene do not show impact on any waterways.
The CBC also reports that the crude oil carrying train derailed about 1:30 a.m.
