MISSOULA, Mont. — Montana Rail Link is giving a group of lucky students a ride aboard the “Christmas Express” this week.

On Tuesday morning, the railroad will be giving a ride aboard its business train to more than 30 students from a school in Thompson Falls, Mont. The ride will feature music, entertainment and even an appearance from Santa Claus.

“MRL has a long history and a bright future with the communities in which we operate,” says MRL President Derek Ollmann. “We’re fortunate we get to share in the spirit of the holidays by providing a really unique experience to kids in Thompson Falls.”

The railroad, in conjunction with the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation, is also making two significant donations to local community groups: $10,000 will be donated to Sanders County Community Harvest and $10,000 to the Sanders County Center on Aging. The check presentation for both organizations will take place during the train ride.

Next week, MRL employees will also be distributing sweatshirts to schools across the railroad system in Montana and Idaho. In the last six years, the railroad has given more than 12,000 new school sweatshirts to students. The sweatshirts are distributed during a school assembly where an MRL employee also gives a safety presentation.

  1. Extremely nice gestures for interacting with local townspeople and students. Excellent way to be a good member of the community(ies) along the lines.
