That means more than $2,500 has been donated toward Project 358, the restoration of a 1950s-era diesel that will return the engine to its as-built appearance. An anonymous donor is matching gifts up to $5,358 made through Dec. 31. This matching donation comes after the society was awarded a $3,000 grant from the Nickel Plate Historical and Technical Society in October. If fully matched, donations would amount to $13,000, putting completion of the project within reach of its remaining $18,000 budget. Various electric work, painting and fabrication work is needed before the engine is restored.
Donations can be made online at fwhrs.org/donate or via mail at Project 358, PO Box 11017, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46855.

Some day, when I have few more miles on me than I do now, I see myself contributing to an organization to restore the NS paint scheme on a loco. I have always been with Henry Ford when it comes to paint schemes: “Any color as long as it is black.”
