But it is being implemented by a cadre of Harrison disciples from his days at Illinois Central and Canadian National.
Members of this IC-CN alumni association — many of whom attended Hunter Camp training sessions on CN — are now working in top jobs at Class I railroad headquarters as well as in dozens of field operations positions across North America.
Management ranks at the two railroads Harrison led after CN — Canadian Pacific and CSX Transportation — are chock full of former CN people.
The three other Class I systems that are adopting Precision Scheduled Railroading have sought out CN veterans and have put them in key positions.
Among them: Union Pacific Chief Operating Officer Jim Vena, Norfolk Southern Senior Vice President of Transportation Michael Farrell, and Kansas City Southern Executive Vice President of Precision Scheduled Railroading Sameh Famhy.
Harrison developed his PSR operating model at IC, which CN acquired in 1999. Harrison left CN at the end of 2009, joined CP in mid-2012, and landed at CSX in March 2017.
EHH ran IC into the ground. Yea it made lots of money, but he cut, cut, cut, and cut some more. Just bairly enough money was spent on maintence.
Passenger trains operated over IC that did 79 to 90 mph were cut. Freight trains that could operate at 65 to 70 now do 55, maybe 60 if they are lucky. That are the main lines. Secondary mains ( what little are left) are maintained to class 3 or less standards. Branch lines wobble are 10 or less. Kinda reminded you of the late 60’s doesn’t it.
Most money made was taken by IC Industries then other holders of the company. Then he suckered CN to pay too much for IC. When he went to CN he did the same thing.
Since he left CN they have been cleaning up his mess by adding back a lot of what he took out.
CP doing same thing.
CSX lines along coast lost at least a third of the business it had a few years ago while NS old New Orleans & Northeast line has a lot more traffic than 3 years ago. Work a couple of blocks from it and always seeing a train pass that is averaging at least 90 cars or so.
This is equal to spreading cow manure all over this industry. Why the sudden rush to implement something has mostly warts & leaves much to be desired?
The primary way EHH made money on ICG was by pulling 4000+ miles of track and/or selling it.
Ed Harris has an entry in the photo gallery.
Kieth Heller left shortly after HH arrived. Worked under both. No comparison. Should list CSX Ed Harris instead.
I really dont see anything in here that hasn’t already reported before. Maybe its just the need to mention PSR again. That calls for a “Hi Bob” shot.
PSR where I am running right now seems to stand for “Park ’em, Stack ’em, Recrew ’em.” That is if you can find a place to stuff a 12000 footer in the Suburbs.
