MONTE VISTA, Colo. — Colorado’s San Luis Central Railroad named one of its two locomotives in memory of employee Danny Naranjo Saturday, Nov. 7. Naranjo, a 35-year-employee of the railroad, collapsed while doing trackwork on Sept. 23. Fellow railroaders and later, paramedics, gave him first aid but were unable to revive him. He was 65.

Naranjo hired out as a freight car repairman on the San Luis Central in February 1980 and worked his way up to supervisor of locomotive engineers. The locomotive, EMD SW8 No. 70, one of two diesels on the railroad, was always his favorite. A plaque in his memory has been mounted inside the cab. He is survived by his wife Diane.
