JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CSX Transportation has made $80,000 in contributions to organizations involved in flood relief in Kentucky, where at least 35 people have died and hundreds were forced from their home. The company is also encouraging employee contributions.
The company announced last week that it was contributing $50,000 to the American Red Cross, $25,000 to the Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund, and $5,000 and transportation servies for Kentucky Steam Heritage Corp. train cars used in support of relief operations.
“The flooding has disrupted the lives of many CSX employees and their families,” said Bryan Tucker, vice president of Corporate Communications. “They’re experiencing significant financial hardship, and I encourage all CSX employees to consider helping your coworkers by providing a tax-deductible contribution to the CSX Employees Disaster Relief Fund.”
The company will provide a dollar-for-dollar match of employee contributions up to $1,000 made through the CSX Volunteer and Giving Center. More information is available in this press release.
Other railroads should chip in too as I see their power on CSX trains.
Gerald is there a dollar figure you would be happy with?
Curious if you and Gregg have donated anything.
I have to the Red Cross.
Record profits. And think of how much profit has been extracted from eastern Kentucky. Foote would make a good Scrooge figure in A Christmas Carrol
Really, $80k? Why not $800k or $8M, it’s not like they can’t afford a bigger donation.
