CLARENDON HILLS, Ill. — Groundbreaking is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2020, for the downtown revitalization project including a new Clarendon Hills Metra station.
Preparations for the project began this week when a bike shelter was removed to make room for a trailer which will serve as a temporary station, the Chicago Tribune reports. The current structure will be torn down shortly after the groundbreaking ceremony.
The 60-foot trailer, to be located at the west end of the existing station parking lot, will include a heated waiting area, ATM machine, and handicapped access.
The $8.3-million to $8.5-million project will also include improvements to the Prospect Avenue grade crossing, along with work on adjacent streets. [See “Metra ups pledge to fund new Clarendon Hills station,” Trains News Wire, Aug. 30, 2019.]
OK, I’m gonna do it…I’m gonna be “that guy”…
“ATM Machine”?????
It was built in the late 1960’s and remodeled in the middle 1980’s.
It only holds about 75 people during cold weather, has 2 single use bathrooms and a former agent window which has been out of service for some time.
At the moment the newspapers, ATM and other vending are all outside.
The station qualifies for updates due to the volumes, the fact the bathrooms are not ADA compliant for starts, and Pace Bus entry and exit is not ideal.
how old is the station that is there now?? Looks serviceable
