SEATTLE — A Sound Transit committee has recommended removing the site of a recently opened hamburger restaurant from consideration as the site of a new maintenance facility.

By a 5-0 vote last week, the System Expansion Committee recommended that the site of a Dick’s Drive-In and Lowe’s home improvement center in Kent, Wash., be dropped from further consideration, the Kent Reporter reports. The committee recommended three other sites be considered by the Sound Transit Board when it meets on May 23.

The Dick’s Drive-In site was controversial because the Kent restaurant — part of a popular, 65-year-old local chain — had only opened in December 2018, just months before Sound Transit revealed it was considering the site for its Operations and Maintenance Facility. The board could choose a final site for the maintenance facility by late next year. The facility is slated to open in 2026.
