“This record achievement underscores the growing need for the reliable and economical service that Tri-Rail provides,” Steven L. Abrams, the agency’s executive director, said in a press release. “People in South Florida are appreciating more and more the role that public transportation plays in their lives. Whether it’s to get to work or school, leisure travel, or just getting from one point to the next while avoiding highway traffic, mobility is being appreciated today more than ever.”
The agency attributes the ridership increase to improved service, which saw over 90% on-time performance in 2019, including a record 96.6% on-time rate in July. The release says the on-time figures reflect an “aggressive focus on improvements, replacing miles of rail on the corridor
that removed several slow orders.”
Tri-Rail, which began operations in January 1989, operates a 71.2-mile,19-station route from Miami to West Palm Beach, Fla.
