Metrolink changes add more trains to LA from Orange County, Perris NEWSWIRE

LOS ANGELES — Commuter railroad Metrolink will introduce new schedules today, increasing service to Los Angeles on its Orange County and 91/Perris Valley lines and making minor adjustments elsewhere to improve connections and reduce delays.

There will be two additional LA-Orange County weekday round trips through the extension of trains that previously operated between Laguna Nigel and Fullerton. Northbound train No. 633 now departs Laguna Nigel/Mission Viejo at 9:28 a.m., 30 minutes later than before, and adds stops in Buena Park and Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs before arriving at LA Union Station at 10:49 a.m. Return train No. 632 departs L.A. Union Station at 1:30 p.m. with new stops in Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs and Buena Park and arrives at Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo at 2:55 p.m. This provides a midday train to Orange County. To enable these changes, Laguna Nigel-Fullerton round trip trains No. 634 and 635 have been discontinued.

Weekday service on the 91/Perris line sees most trains renumbered and three Perris-Riverside round trips discontinued, while one additional round trip to Los Angeles has been added with trains 707 and 708.

    I get thruogh threre on the SW Chief once a year.

    First they built stub tracks and platforms on the west side of the station for Metrolink trains terminating there from LAUPT and Orange Co. Later they added a flyover for the trains coming off the old AT&SF Pasadena subdivision. The station itself was renovated. A rail museum occupies most of the downstairs, except for the waiting room. Sadly, it is no longer staffed. Most Metrolink passengers bypass it for the newer terminal. The county transportation agency has their offices on the second floor. (The same people, who are working on the Arrow DMU and experimental hydrogen powered unit service to Redlands). The 3rd floor was still vacant, when was on a PRS tour/excursion of the building about five years ago.

    Finally, within the past six months a new center platform and pedestrian bridge over tracks 1 and 2 allows for the Chief to stop on track 3. So, there is now more activity in front of the station. This was part of the extended Metrolink service to the new downtown SBO Transit center, where Arrow will terminate.

    Others more familiar can fill in some details and corrections. I am 100 mi away in SBA.

  2. Not sure this would have pulled me out of my car. Train 809, for example, does not originate at SBO but in Riverside. For a trip from SBO to Anaheim it would not have worked. But, they can keep trying.

    As an aside, the ATSF station in San Bernardino. Last time I was in it – admittedly over 20 years ago, was in a shocking state. I understand that it has been cleaned up since. Can anyone tell me how it looks these days?
