LINCOLN, Neb. – Union Pacific’s streamlined E9s and a fleet of passenger cars will tour the state of Nebraska early next month as part of a whistle stop tour celebrating Nebraska’s sesquicentennial. Elected officials and other local stakeholders will be on board to celebrate the state’s 150th anniversary.

The train, dubbed as the “Nebraska 150 Express,” will depart Omaha on Aug. 4 for a three-day tour across much of the state. The special train will make stops in Columbus, North Platte, Ogallala, Sidney, Gering, Kearney, and Grand Island. At each stop, local sponsors will provide food and live entertainment. The train will layover an average two to three hours at each city.

Union Pacific published the following schedule earlier this week:

Aug. 4:
9:45 a.m. local time train will depart from Omaha Durham Museum
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in Columbus
4 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. in North Platte

Aug. 5:
8 a.m. local time departure from North Platte
8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. in Ogallala
11:55 a.m. to 12:55 p.m. in Sidney
6:20 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. in Gering
Overnight in North Platte

Aug. 6:
8 a.m. local time departure from North Platte
10: a.m. – 11 a.m. in Kearney
11:55 a.m. – 12:55 p.m. in Grand Island
Depart for Omaha

The train is not open to the public.
