RALEIGH, N.C. — Amtrak’s Carolinian will be reduced to weekend-only service along its full New York-Charlotte, N.C. route beginning July 22, and schedules for the Palmetto and Silver Star will also be altered, because of CSX Transportation track work, according to a press release from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The schedule changes will be in effect through Sept. 19.

The Carolinian will operate on its normal schedule to and from New York on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. On Mondays through Thursdays, it will operate only between Raleigh and Charlotte.

Only the northbound Silver Star will be affected. Beginning Sunday, July 21, Sunday through Wednesday departures from Miami will leave at at 3:50 p.m., four hours later than its normal departure time, and maintain that four-hour difference along its route, arriving in New York at 10:50 p.m. Thursday through Saturday northbound trains will operate on the normal schedule.

The southbound Palmetto will operate on a modified schedule beginning July 22. On Mondays through Thursdays, it will operate on a normal schedule from New York to Richmond, Va., but leave Richmond one hour later than normal and maintain that one-hour difference over the remainder of its route. It will operate on its normal schedule Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The southbound Silver Star and northbound Palmetto will operate normally.
