NEW HAVEN, IND. — On Aug. 17, 18, and 19 the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society will host its annual open house event and welcome a special “guest”

locomotive that’s visiting Fort Wayne for the first time.

Throughout the three-day event, visitors can enjoy caboose rides, model railroad displays, historic exhibits, and experience the world-famous operating Nickel Plate Road steam locomotive No. 765. Last year, the event saw well over 4,000 visitors.

Visiting this year is No. 85, a small, industrial tank engine built in 1928 and restored by Gramling Locomotive Works, a father-son team from Ashley, Indi. Jeddo Coal 85
will be operating the event’s regular train rides and for the first time in its history, the organization will have two operating steam locomotives on the property.

Open House hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Online tickets for the caboose rides are selling out, but walk-up tickets are available every 45 minutes. Admission to the event is free.

Following the open house, the society will operate several excursions between Joliet and Chicago, Ill., on Sept. 15 and 16 and in the Cleveland/Akron region in late
September and early October.

The society also will operate its second Annual Pumpkin Train on Oct. 13 and 14 and the 17th Annual Santa Train throughout December at its site at 15808 Edgerton
Road in New Haven, Ind.
