SAVANNAH, Ga. — Shortline holding company OmniTRAX and parent company The Broe Group have announced an agreement with A&R Logistics as the lead tenant of the new Savannah Gateway Industrial Hub, an industrial park development that will include the building of Georgia’s first new industrial switching railroad in more than 50 years.
The 2,750-acre park will have the capacity for up to 18 million square feet of industrial space. A&R’s 12-year lease covers approximately 610,000 square feet of the initial 1-million-square-foot, build-to-suit project.
The project will include construction of more than 7 miles of rail infrastructure, including a central OmniTRAX yard and a 200-plus-car yard dedicated to A&R. The new switching railroad will connect tenants to both of the region’s Class I railroads, Norfolk Southern and CSX Transportation.
“With the ability to accommodate industrial operations and corporate campuses, Savannah Gateway Industrial Hub will provide world-class operational efficiency and supply chain access to North America and the world,” OmniTRAX CEO Kevin Shuba said in a press release announcing the agreement with A&R. “SGIH combines the best of Savannah’s build-to-suit industrial land with dual Class 1 rail service, convenient highway infrastructure and easy, efficient access to the Port of Savannah. SGIH is poised to be the eastern seaboard’s premier industrial park, and A&R is the ideal anchor tenant to demonstrate the supply chain advantages that SGIH offers.”
Watco has a similar arrangement with the Port of Jacksonville (JAXPORT) using Jacksonville Port Terminal RR (JXPT). JXPT also serves both CSX and NS.
