GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Northern Plains Rail Services is breaking ground on a new railcar repair facility along BNSF Railway’s main line at Grand Forks in northern North Dakota. The 283-acre site will serve rail shippers of agricultural and manufacturing products.

Railcar storage and switching services will also be available at the site with available land to accommodate future expansions. It will be the company’s second railcar repair location in North Dakota. The company operates railcar and locomotive repair facilities in Minnesota and two Canadian provinces. Its original company is the 350-mile Northern Plains Railroad serving the upper Midwest in Minnesota and North Dakota.

The Grand Forks site is expected to be operational in 2020.

  1. Hopefully the car repair includes cleaning up these cars & getting rid of the graffiti. In our town, graffiti would be painted over quickly. That soon discouraged these vandals.
