A Wednesday morning update on rail service changes in response to the COVID-19 outbreak:
— After introducing reduced service on Tuesday, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has made some adjustments beginning today, reflecting Tuesday usage. The agency will add morning Blue Line service, additional Green Line E branch service — in part to support workforce in the Longwood Medical Area — and some additional bus operations.
— Washington D.C.’s Metro is further reducing service as of today, with weekday trains running on 15-minute headways, and reduced hours of service: 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays, and 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends. All trains will run with maximum eight-car trainsets to encourage social distancing. Buses will operate on Sunday schedules and may bypass stops if they are too full.
— Maryland’s MARC commuter trains shifted to a limited “R” schedule as of Tuesday, March 17, with some additional trains operating on the Penn and Brunswick lines. Baltimore’s Light RailLink will operate on a Saturday schedule on weekdays.
— The Nevada Northern Railway is closing as of today through March 29, the museum has announced. Information and updates are available on the museum website.
— No additional Amtrak schedule changes were announced Tuesday, but additional reductions remain possible. Watch Amtrak.com for the latest information.
