A BNSF Railway representative tells Trains that no injuries were reported after high winds knocked over 93 empty tank cars parked on a siding near Walton, and took out another 52 well cars in an intermodal train that was slowing to a stop late Saturday night. The intermodal train was moving at less than 15 mph, the representative said.
Walton is about 175 miles southwest of Kansas City, Kan., and 33 miles north of Wichita, Kan. Rail crews restored service to the route “just before midnight” on Sunday. The former Santa Fe route hosts BNSF and Union Pacific traffic as well as Amtrak’s Southwest Chief.
