MINNEAPOLIS — Metro Transit broke its single-day light rail ridership record on April 8, the day of the NCAA basketball championship game in Minneapolis.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports the light rail system recorded more than 130,000 rides on the day Virginia beat Texas Tech for the NCAA title. The 130,896 rides broke the mark of 122,688 on Sept. 11, 2017, when the Minnesota Vikings played New Orleans in a Monday Night Football game. The football game, like the NCAA title contest, was played at U.S. Bank Stadium.
In all, 498,495 riders used the light rail system during the four-day Final Four weekend, nearly 160,000 more than the four-day period the previous week.
I was on the light rail with my family. The train was packed. We stopped at a station and the transit cops got on. Everyone bailed out the back door. We were the only ones left on the train.
I’m sure that is paying fares as there would be no other method of ridership numbers.
Yeah, and nobody’s gonna ride these things.
Is that how many people got on it, Or how many people actually bought tickets and rode it?
