No injuries were reported in this collision and fire involving a Metrolink train Friday morning.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. — No injuries were reported when a Metrolink train hit a motor home at a grade crossing, setting the vehicle on fire and badly damaging the commuter train’s cab car.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Rosecrans and Marquardt avenues, involving train No. 681, the morning’s first inbound Orange County Line train. That train is scheduled to depart Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo at 4:05 a.m. and arrive at Los Angeles Union Station at 5:25 a.m., but KTLA-5 News reports the accident occurred at about 5:45 a.m.

As of 7:45 a.m. local time, tracks remained out of service between Santa Fe Springs and Buena Park. Metrolink was running some bus service, but was advising passengers to seek alternate transportation. Updated information is available on Metrolink’s Twitter account.

  1. Sad scene, but at least no one was hurt. Engineers can’t help it when a vehicle is placed on the tracks, and the engineer can’t see it in time to stop. It’s the driver of the vehicle’s fault.
