In the latest in a series of financial woes, on September 9 two IPH operations, the San Luis & Rio Grande and the Mount Hood Railroad, were placed into receivership by a federal court judge, but were expected to continue to operate. Additional railroads may follow.
This followed a potential Mount Hood Railroad property seizure by the county attorney’s office in Hood River County, Ore., in August over failure to pay county taxes for the last three years. It is unknown at this time how the receivership will affect this claim.
Calls and emails to the Iowa Pacific offices seeking comment on the equipment sales have gone unanswered.
Pictures and descriptions of the equipment are available online.
Last I heard, the Coffee Creek was stored indoors in IP’s Alamosa shops as of 2014.
I’ll take an engine LOL
Somebody better get that BL2.Very rare EMD locomotive
LS&I 18 has been added to the list of equipment for sale.
The Ed Ellis shell game continues to unravel. When will Trains cease their hero worship of him and his operation and publish an analysis of what happened here?
Those dome cars will be the first to go. Lots of third party demand for those.
To ditto Erich’s question what about the MILW PS Skytop sleeper Coffee Creek? Has anyone at Trains heard anything about the disposition of this car – the only surviving Olympian Hiawatha Skytop?
Gerald McFarlane, I believe that your statement is the reality here. Mt. Hood is probably history. Many years back, while stationed in the NW, we took the children on an excursion ride. Stunning countryside is an understatement. Sad to be losing this.
The IPH financial woes are not new. Ask anyone who has done business with Ed.
What happened to the ex-Milwaukee Road Skytop Obs Coffee Creek that he purchased and was going to restore?
Brian Westgate,
Looking at the list of items for sale, which you can do with this one, but not the one that was for the ex-ITM stuff, it would appear that the Mt. Hood stuff is designed to leave them with nothing for any service, not even the 2 or 3 day a week freight operation…either the receiver isn’t be told what is going on, or it was at their behest…I vote for option one and don’t think that shutting down the operation is what anyone has in mind…though that’s what would happen if the equipment is sold.
For the record the 821 is an S2 painted in D&H black and yellow and was former US Army.
Shouldn’t the Mount Hood locomotives/cars stay with that railroad?
