BEAUMONT, Texas — Following heavy rains last week, Kansas City Southern has reopened trackage between Beaumont and Houston while Union Pacific still has freight embargoes on its Beaumont, Houston, and Lafayette Subdivisions, railroad officials say.

Closures stemmed from flooding caused by Tropical Depression Imelda.

KCS officials advise shippers to “expect delays for some time until the backlog has been alleviated and normal speeds can be resumed.”

UP embargoes continue for all customers at Galveston, Hull, Pedeco, Hardin, Sandune, Kenefick, Martha, and Huffman, Texas, and for Optimus Steel in Kort, Texas, according to UP and the Railinc AAR Embargo System.

Moderate to major flooding continues on waterways north and west of Beaumont, according to the National Weather Service.
