JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — CSX Transportation’s Brian M. Zacker has received the 2019 North American Environmental Employee Excellence Award from the Association of American Railroads. Zacker, an environmental field services senior manager, becomes the ninth CSX employee in 18 years to win the industry’s highest honor for environmental professionals.

“Brian applied decades of environmental experience to his role with CSX, which informs his approach to innovation, relationship building and continuous process improvement,” said Raghu Chatrathi, CSX senior director of public safety, health and environment, in a press release. “He is a true change agent who has improved longstanding processes and achieved lasting outcomes.”

Zacker has improved environmental performance while delivering cost savings through enhanced environmental stewardship initiatives, CSX said. Some of his accomplishments include: establishing a spent materials collection and recycling program; developing initiatives to recover 1,900 tons of coal in lieu of landfill disposal; improving hazardous waste and used oil management processes; and, standardizing risk-reduction processes to support hurricane preparation and recovery efforts.

  1. Congratulations to Brian, who is a top flight individual and an asset to CSX. I am pleased to call him a friend, too.
