On Saturday March 23, the Arcade & Attica ran its first trip to North Java, N.Y., with an excursion train in 30 years. This trip was part of the New York State Maple Syrup Weekend celebration which took place over the weekend.
Another trip, planned for March 30, is reportedly sold out. A third trip is planned for August.
The trips are operated with two of the railroad’s center cab GEs and two passenger cars.
The shortline and tourist railroad typically runs its excursions between Arcade and Curriers, N.Y. The extension to North Java was made possible when the railroad upgraded the track to Class 1 standards last year, according to Pat Connors, of the non-profit Friends of the A&A.
The short line has no plans to include the extra mileage on its regular scheduled trips but is expected to include them on special charters. The next one planned is for the Buffalo & Susquehanna Railroad Symposium in August.
