SPOKANE, Wash. — Union Pacific said it was able to quickly repair and restore to service a bridge that had been closed when struck by a truck.

The city of Spokane reported in a Twitter post that the Altamont Street railroad underpass in East Spokane was closed after sustaining “significant damage” after being struck by the semi-truck Wednesday afternoon. Pictures posted by the city showed rails and ties on a section of track leading to the bridge knocked as much as a foot out of alignment.

A Union Pacific spokesman said the bridge was back in service as of 10 p.m. Thursday night.

  1. I disagree. People should be aware of what they are driving and their surroundings. Being responsible for yourself instead of someone else is a critical trait.

  2. UP needs to install a protection beam similar to the one NS installed at the 11 foot 8 bridge in Durham NC.
