California short line rebuilds bridge, plans steam-powered celebration NEWSWIRE

FILLMORE, Calif. – A one-year-long effort by California’s Fillmore & Western Railway has culminated in the completion of the new 45-foot Hunn Creek Bridge in Santa Paula and the reconnection of the railroad with the Union Pacific and the outside world. A number of grade crossings were upgraded as well. The previous out-of-service wood bridge was too far gone to be rebuilt.

The bridge is scheduled to officially return service Wednesday and is of a steel deck design.
The railroad is celebrating with three special steam-powered excursions Sept. 1-2 Power is slated to be 2-8-0 No. 14, a 1913 Baldwin, towing a three-car heavyweight consist. The approximately one-hour runs will operate from Santa Paula to the outskirts of Saticoy,just outside the city of Ventura, departing at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m. Tickets are $26 for adults, and $16 for riders 2-16 years of age.
The Fillmore & Western, known for its movie, television, and commercial work, actively operates passenger excursions, dinner trains, holiday trains, and other specialty trains. Trains Magazine highlighted the railroad in the May 2013 issue.
