After holding a preview and reception in the space on June 23, Amtrak this week opens its new Metropolitan Lounge at Chicago Union Station. The facility for sleeping-car and business-class passengers is twice the size of the 25-year-old lounge it replaces. Join Trains Associate Editor David Lassen for a tour of the facilities and work being done on upcoming expansions.

  1. I hope the fact that the new facility has shower facilities does not lead to AMTRAK eliminating such facilities in the current and further sleeping cars.

  2. I just completed a seven train trip this AM. We changed trains June 15th(old lounge) in Chicago and then again on July 6th(new lounge). The new lounge is a fantastic improvement !!!!! Easy to find, self storage of your luggage, comfortable and large enough to accommodate the crowds. BUTTTTTT The location, and the lack of good directions(Quote–go down the hall, thru the double doors, make a right and go to your gate) to get to your train, is a serious oversight!!!!! At the PM rush hour you have to “fight your way” through the heard of commuter passengers. You then arrive at trainside at the same time as coach passengers. Gone is the convenient “preboard” from the old lounge.

  3. I’m curious about any areas in or not in public view of CUS that have remained untouched or remodeled since the facility was built in 1925–it would be interesting to do a ‘behind the scenes’ tour video showing areas that are off-limits

  4. the new metropolitan lounge is not only welcome because it is new and fresh but also because the old
lounge space, once removed, will “open up” the area near the gates. in recent years, this gate area
has been very crowded and tight. simply removing walls will aid the flow of people.

  5. The new Metropolitan Lounge is well presented on your video. This beautiful lounge should help return opulence to train travel.

Thank you for this video which I appreciate.
