Lynden Tennison, UP Chief Strategy Officer
Union Pacific
OMAHA, Neb. — Union Pacific today announced the pending retirement of Chief Strategy Officer Lynden Tennison, just six months after he was named executive vice president.

Tennison began serving as executive vice president and chief strategy officer on Aug. 1, 2018. Two weeks later, when chief operating officer Cam Scott’s retirement was announced, UP’s network planning and operations team began reporting to Tennison.

Word of Tennison’s retirement, which will take effect March 31, came in a regulatory filing today, a little more than two weeks after new Chief Operating Officer Jim Vena began working at the railroad’s headquarters.

Tennison reported to Vena, a veteran Canadian National executive who was brought in to lead UP’s transition to an operating plan based on the principles of Precision Scheduled Railroading. Vena served as chief operating officer at CN from 2013 to 2016.

Before Vena’s arrival Tennison reported to CEO Lance Fritz.

Tennison is a 27-year veteran of UP. He joined the company in 1992 and was responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the railroad’s strategic agenda.

Tennison previously served as senior vice president and chief information officer since 2005, and was responsible for UP’s information technology programs.

UP did not immediately respond to email seeking additional comment on Tennison’s retirement.
