The back-to-back quakes measuring in 7 and 5.8 on the Richter scale shook buildings and damaged roads across the southern part of the state. The Associated Press reports that there were no immediate reports of death or serious injury.
Alaska Railroad spokesperson Tim Sullivan tells Trains that no trains were operating at the time of the quake. However, pipes broke at the railroad’s Anchorage dispatch center, flooding part of it. Power has also been cut to the dispatch center. Sullivan says regular operations will not resume for at least a day or two while employees assess damage across the railroad.
I totally agree with the comment concerning the read-ability of the Newswire – *PLEASE* go back to the 5-day listing, or give us a link to the whole shebang – this is devilish-difficult to figure out!
