The WW&F, along with the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad and Museum, Maine Locomotive & Machine Co., and Boothbay Railway Village are bringing together locomotives and rolling stock from three of Maine’s famed two-footers, much of which has not been together in nearly a century, for two weekends of all-day photo and video opportunities.
Featured locomotives include Bridgton & Saco River No. 7, WW&F No. 9, Monson RR No. 3, and S.D. Warren No. 2. Train consists will include the Sandy River parlor car Rangeley, along with other passenger and freight equipment.
In addition to all the WW&F’s many photo locations, there will be limited and special opportunities to explore the WW&F’s new Mountain Extension, a prime and beautiful example of narrow gauge engineering from the 1890s. Attendance is limited to 25 each weekend.
Two optional opportunities are also being offered. The first is the SR&RL on Friday (Jan. 17 and Feb. 7), during which WW&F 9 will be backdated to represent its days as SR&RL No. 6. The SR&RL parlor car Rangeley will be taken out, along with F&M coach 2, SR&RL combine 14 and other equipment to round out scenes reminiscent of the largest of Maine’s two-foot gauge railways. The second option is a Saturday Evening Photo Session, directed and lit by award-winning cinematographer Stephen Hussar.
Ticketholders will have full two-day access, which commences with firing up the steam locomotives at 6 a.m. Saturday. The operating program will be divided into morning and afternoon sessions each day, with each segment highlighting three of Maine’s original two-footers including the B&SR, Monson, and WW&F. It sounds like a great day out. Only, in January one is liable to be under a foot or two of snow and shivering in sub zero temperatures.
