SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner and the North County Transit District Coaster commuter rail service both have further reduced service beyond the plans announced previously as a result of Tropical Storm Hilary, now moving through Southern California.

The latest Surfliner update has two southbound and five northbound trains cancelled in their entirety; three other southbound trains terminating in Los Angeles, with one northbound train originating in Los Angeles rather than San Diego, and one round trip terminating and originating in Irvine rather than San Diego. Details are available here. As of 7 p.m. CDT today (Aug. 20), the only schedule change for Monday involves northbound train No. 761, which will originate in Los Angeles at 7:13 a.m. rather than in San Diego.

Amtrak’s website currently shows no changes for long-distance service beyond those previously announced [see “Approaching storm leads to Amtrak cancellations …,” Trains News Wire, Aug. 19, 2023].

Coaster service, which had already been reduced to four round trips today, has now been suspended until further notice, with the cancellation of the last two round trips planned for Sunday between San Diego and Oceanside. Details are available here.
