BALTIMORE — The Maryland Transit Administration has awarded Alstom a five-year contract for operation and maintenance of the MARC commuter rail Camden and Brunswick lines, with options for two extensions. The initial contract is worth $401 million, with a total of value of $1.4 billion including the potential extensions in 2028 and 2033.

Alstom, which was previously awarded a contract for the two lines in 2012, will continue to be responsible for operations, crews, customer service, fleet maintenance, and station and facilties management. The fleet includes 42 diesel locomotives, 60 MARC II passenger cars and 54 Alstom bilevel cars.

Under the new contract, Alstom will also pilot a fuel-saving project and introduce some digital maintenance innovations.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to strengthen our long and proud relationship with the Maryland Transit Administration, and very proud of our performance since we initiated services in 2013,” Michael Keroullé, Alstom Americas President, said in a press release. “We look forward to serving MARC with the continued high-performance standards we have demonstrated in the past decade.”
