Surface Transportation Board logoWASHINGTON — The parties involved in the dispute over Amtrak’s effort to launch Gulf Coast passenger service have asked the Surface Transportation Board for a second extension for their current board-sponsored mediation.

In a request filed Friday, Amtrak, CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern, and the Alabama State Port Authority jointly requested the board extend mediation by another 15 days, saying the additional time “would be productive as they seek to reach an amicable resolution of this matter.” The original 30-day extension to mediation expired Sunday, Sept. 25. The new extension would run through Oct. 11.

The parties requested the initial extension on Aug. 24, which the board granted without comment on Aug. 26. Hearings in the matter have been on hold since the last of 11 days of sessions on May 12.
