Amtrak plans ‘statewide celebration’ for return of second Missouri River Runner

Two daily St. Louis-Kansas City round trips begin July 18

The resumption of two daily round trips on the St. Louis-Kansas City, Mo., Missouri River Runner will be marked with ceremonies at cities along the route, Amtrak says.

Schedule for the westbound Missouri River Runner train No. 311The second round trip, restored through funding approved by the Missouri General Assembly and Gov. Mike Parson, resumes Monday, July 18 [see “Second ‘Missouri River Runner’ to return …,” Trains News Wire, July 6, 2022].

The events bringing representatives of Amtrak and communities on the route to local stations will be held in conjunction with Monday’s trip for train No. 311, which departs St. Louis at 8:15 a.m., with stops according to the schedule at right.

In addition to making possible single-day round trips along the route, the restoration of the second train comes in time to offer service to the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, Aug. 11-21.

  1. I hope that the Union Pacific might be able to run the trains somewhat close to on time, at least for the first day, but that’s a big ask. I would not wager my own money on it. They have been doing a horrible job with just the one round trip.

  2. A win is a win. Let’s observe it as a step in the right direction, but not the end of the journey.

    1. Third World passenger rail is what many parts of the United States of America does see. Maybe it’s time to catch up to the rest of civilization?
