HOPE, British Columbia — Police are investigating what they say was an attempt to derail a train in British Columbia’s Fraser Canyon and are seeking public assistance.
The Hope and Boston Bar offices of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police say that on Oct. 22 at 3:18 a.m., an individual placed a vice clamp on the railroad tracks near the old Alexandra Bridge in Spuzzum, B.C. Police are asking that anyone come forward who may have driven through the area between 2:30 a.m. and 3:15 a.m. on that date and would have dash camera footage, or that they be contacted by ayone else with information regarding the incident. Contact information, including an anonymous tip line, is available here.
“It is very concerning when someone goes to this extreme to cause a catastrophic event that puts the train staff and the local community at risk of harm,” Sgt. Mike Sargent of the Hope RCMP said in a press release.
Canadian National and CPKC operate on paired trackage on opposite sides of the Fraser River through the area. The RCMP release does not indicate which railroad’s trackage was involved.
It seems that the PNW region of the U.S., and now Canada, has been a hot-spot for (attempted) railroad sabotage.
The station Spuzzum BC is located at MP 15.5, CPKC Cascade Subdivision.
