Auto racks on CPKC train derail in Ontario

CPKC logoCAMBRIDGE, Ontario — No injuries were reported after 14 cars of a Canadian Pacific Kansas City train derailed today (May 17) near Cambridge, CTV News reports.

Robert Shantz, fire chief of the Township of North Dumfries, told CTV that his department had been released from the scene after it was determined no hazardous materials were involved and the derailment did not pose a public safety concern. All the derailed cars were auto carriers, Shantz said.

The accident occurred about 5 p.m. CPKC crews were reported to be on scene and engaging in clean-up.

Cambridge, a city of 138,479 as of the 2021 census, is about 24 miles northwest of Hamilton, Ont., and 50 miles southwest of Toronto.
