BART logoORINDA, Calif. — Regular Bay Area Rapid Transit service on the Yellow Line resumed this morning (Tuesday, Jan. 2) following Monday’s derailment of a train between the Orinda and Lafayette stations in the East Bay, the transit agency has announced.

The last two cars of a train derailed about 9 a.m. Monday [see “Nine injured as BART train derails,” Trains News Wire,” Jan. 1, 2024].

A crane re-railed the two cars about 7 p.m., allowing the damaged train to be towed to a yard and track repairs to begin. BART said in a press release that switches were not damaged at the interlocking where the derailment occurred, meaning more extensive repairs were not required, and announced at 4:45 a.m. that the repairs were complete, allowing service to resume.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
