BRENHAM, Texas — Seventeen cars of a 127-car BNSF coal train derailed Tuesday (Dec. 24, 2024), near the town of Brenham, KHOU-TV reports. No injuries resulted but at least one grade crossing is facing an extended closure.
The derailment occurred about 9:30 a.m. at the New Wehdem Road grade crossing adjacent to State Route 36, about 5½ miles south of downtown Brenham. One nearby residence lost power as a result, KWHI Radio reports.
Brenham is on BNSF’s Galveston Subdivision, 92 miles southeast of Temple, Texas, and 126 miles northwest of Galveston.
-It would help if someone on trains staff would use one of 2 adjectives either loaded or empty for any unit train that derailed. For other derailments loaded cars especially Haz Mat are important.
