BNSF Railway logoDES LACS, N.D. — BNSF’s main line across North Dakota was fully reopened Saturday evening after a Friday morning derailment, the railroad says in a customer advisory.

One track of the main line near Des Lacs, about 14 miles west of Minot, N.D., reopened on Saturday at 5:25 a.m. CST; the second track reopened at 6:34 p.m.

The route had been blocked by a derailment of an intermodal train at 3:36 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 [see “BNSF main line shut down …,” Trains News Wire, Feb. 24, 2023]. KMOT-TV reports seven cars carrying 16 to 17 containers were involved, a revision of the initial estimate from the Burlington Rural Fire Department. Two locomotives also derailed. The station says another derailment occurred less than a mile away last May.
