PHOENIX — Plans for a major BNSF intermodal and logistics facility near Phoenix have passed the first step in the permitting process.
In a meeting last week, the Maricopa County Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval for the BNSF Logistics Park Phoenix development, the Phoenix Business Journal reports. The county’s Board of Supervisors will vote on the project on Dec. 11.
The $3.2 billion project, announced in June after several years of planning, will cover more than 4,000 acres and combine an intermodal terminal, a logistics park with sites for warehouse and distribution facilities, and logistics center with rail-served sites for local industries [see “BNSF officially announces plans …,” Trains News Wire, June 19, 2024]. Residents of the nearby unincorporated communities of Wittmann and Circle City have voiced opposition to the project, a portion of which requires rezoning from residential to business use [see “Residents seek to fight BNSF plan …,” News Wire, Aug. 30, 2024].
More on the project is available at this BNSF website.
