Canadian government highlights $9.8 million in funding for Quebec rail projects

More than 70 projects receive funds under Rail Safety Improvement Program

Transport Canada logoSAINT-LAZARE, Quebec — The Canadian government has provided C$9.8 million for more than 70 projects in Quebec has part of its Rail Safety Improvement Program, Minister of Transport Pablo Rodriguez and Member of Parliament announced in an event Wednesday, March 13, highlighting a $472,679 project to fence off a portion of right-of-way in Saint-Lazare.

Wednesday’s event follows a similar event earlier this month in Markham, Ontario, highlighting more than C$13.5 million in similar investments in Ontario [see “Canadian government provides $13 million …,” Trains News Wire, March 8, 2024].

“We work with our partners every day to make living environments near railways safer for Canadians,” Rodriguez said in a press release. “Safety is always our priority. This will also allow us to maintain the effectiveness of our railways in getting us the goods we need when we need them and at reasonable cost.”
