MONTREAL — Canadian National on Wednesday will unveil two locomotives clad in a special paint scheme saluting veterans in Canada and the United States.
“CN’s two new tribute locomotives pay homage to veterans and active military men and women across North America,” railway spokesman Jonathan Abecassis says. “Their custom design represents the proud footprint we have established across our network and our deep recognition for the veterans who live and work in the communities our trains pass through every day. They will be rolled out in the coming days.”
The locomotives feature camouflage paint on the long hood. The engineer’s side of the locomotive carries a “Thank You For Your Service” message in English, along with a “support our troops” yellow ribbon. The conductor’s side conveys the same message in French, along with an image of a poppy and the words “Lest We Forget.”
CN will recognize veterans on Nov. 11 with two minutes of silence in its offices, yards, and shops. Train crews on mainlines will ring their bells.
In the U.S., CN is making a $10,000 donation to the American Legion, a nonprofit organization that helps veterans and their families apply for benefits, assists wounded and disabled veterans and grants scholarships to children whose parents have died or sustained serious injuries.
CN is the latest railroad to honor veterans with specially painted locomotives.
