CALGARY — Canadian National and oil and gas service and transportation firm Keyera will evaluate development of a new terminal to ship conventional and clean energy in Alberta’s “industrial heartland,” the companies announced Wednesday.
The facility would be on adjoining land belonging to CN and Keyera and would provide a single terminal to transport energy from multiple sources. CN says it will offer benefits including the opportunity for product aggregation through close proximity to large industrial operators; infrastructure already in place to support the facility and its customers; and direct access to CN’s network. The completed facility is expected to be capable of handling six inbound and outbound high-capacity trains daily.
“This project capitalizes on a core CN strength: sustainably moving Canadian natural resources safely and efficiently to domestic and international markets” CN CEO Tracy Robinson said in a press release. “We are pleased to be working with Keyera on this project which will benefit Alberta and the Canadian economy.” Keyera CEO Dean Setoguchi said the agreement “builds on the strengths of each partner and allows for the most efficient solutions for the industry to achieve both the needs of today’s market and the future of clean energy.”
