MONTREAL — Canadian National Railway announced Tuesday that it had reached a new three-year agreement with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Canada after concluding arbitration with the union.
The new contract, retroactive to Jan. 1 of this year and running through the end of 2024, includes 3% raises each year.
The union represents about 750 CN signal and communication workers in Canada.
“We are satisfied to have concluded this arbitration,” Rob Reilly, CN executive vice-president and chief operating officer, said in a statement. “We continue to focus on implementing a back-to-basics approach by running a scheduled operation, aligning capacity with demand and working closely with our customers and stakeholders to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the best network in North America.”
IBEW workers went on strike against CN on June 18. That walkout that ended July 5 when the railroad and union agreed to binding arbitration [see “IBEW members accept arbitration …,” Trains News Wire, July 5, 2022]. CN said it was able to maintain normal operations during the strike.
Congratulations Brothers and Sisters on your new contract. Stay safe out there. Chris Thompson, retired IBEW Local 345.
